Chollicothe Culture Club Baseball

The GFWC Chillicothe Culture Club program for October was “Lets Play Ball” written by Mary Underwood with emphasis on membership. What a fun time! Club members participated in playing the outfield and the batter’s on the bench. Suited up with Culture Club baseball caps, gloves and bat were President, Norma Shearer, Catcher - Marilyn McIntyre, Pitcher – Zelma Cleaveland, Scorekeeper & Vendor – Mary Underwood, Coach. The Coach is the moderator.

LET’S HEAR SOME NOISE FROM THE OUTFIELD! The Coach calls “Batter Up”.

“Fast Ball” McIntyre puts a curve ball over the plate and “Squatter” Shearer throws to the first base, “Stay Alert”, ask, inform and promote GFWC.

“Batter Up”, the pitch, the throw to 2nd base, “No Outs”, enthusiasm, interest and enjoyable.

“Batter Up”, the pitch, the throw to 3rd base, “Slide In”, positive, kind and friendship.

“Batter Up”, the pitch, the throw to home plate, “Safe at Home”. Communicate, encourage and mentor.

Keep your eye on the ball. Now team members you are up to bat! LET’S HIT A HOME RUN AND BRING THOSE NEW MEMBERS HOME.

Twenty-two members all joined in and sang “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” while Scorekeeper Cleaveland changed her baseball cap to a vendor’s hat. She then passed out packets of peanuts and crackerjacks to each member with a GFWC information card attached to be given to a prospective member.

Pitcher McIntyre needn’t look so surprised when batter Ruth Bensen hit the ball. After all, Ruth has been batting for GFWC for 63 years.

GFWC Tuesday Study Club of Braymer joined the Pleasant Hill-Lyon Club for the end-of-year Club Trip. First stop was Stroud’s North Restaurant for their famous pan-fried chicken dinner served family style. Then it was on to the Living History Museum at Hodge Park in Liberty. We finished the afternoon with a movie of our choice at the Liberty Theater. It was a great day --- warm, sunny and shared with good friends.

This is a fundraiser that we do for our club's general fund to support local projects throughout the year.  Generally we deliver 45-50 arrangements over two days netting $450 - $500 for the club.  It is a fun activity and easy to coordinate - and everyone is glad to see you!

ADOPT-A-TEACHER

Adopt a Teacher at Braymer C-4 School

Lois Cox and Rosie Prothero presented the first Adopt-A-Teacher program of the school year on Tuesday, Oct. 28th, at Braymer C-4 School. Every year the fourth graders are presented a monthly program by members of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Tuesday Study Club. October’s program told the students one interesting/unusual fact about each of our nation’s presidents. The students learned who the first president was that had a beard, which president began the “Easter egg roll” tradition, which president had sheep grazing on the White House Lawn, which president was so large he needed a special bathtub, and many other little known facts.

GFWC Women’s Club of Ste. Genevieve

I’m so excited about a fund-raiser we are doing for Girls Town! One of our members (a relatively new one too) recently organized a Poker Run to benefit MGT. I’m sending along a copy of her flyer and the letter she requested from Kathy Becker. We’ve already collected quite a few prizes for the Poker Run and some donations. And we are on a roll! I hope we can build this into a really sizeable gift for MGT.

Gayle Langan is heading up this project. She recently organized an American Legion Riders Motorcycle Association Club in conjunction with our American Legion Post 150. The really exciting part is she got the American Legion Post to agree to match whatever we collect for MGT.

Here’s an opportunity for you to MAXIMIZE YOUR GIFT TO MGT! The GFWC Women’s Club of Ste. Genevieve and the American Legion Riders Motorcycle Association are holding a Poker Run on September 27, 2008 to raise funds for MGT and YOU can participate. Everything we collect will be matched by our local American Legion. Many of you are considering a gift from your club to help the Sewer Project effort. Your gift can be doubled! Simply send your check made out to Missouri Girls Town Foundation to:
